Talmont-Saint-Hilaire – a tourist destination with a variety of activities

The town of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire, located a few minutes drive from Les Sables d’Olonne, has a rich tourist heritage.

Come and stay just a few kilometres from the port of Talmont-Saint-Hilaire and its wild beach: La Plage du Veillon. Camping Mirabel La Baie de Cayola is located on the wild coast of Les Sables, between land and sea, with a view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Castle of Talmont, fortress of the 11th century

Built in 1020, the Château de Talmont-Saint-Hilaire once belonged to Richard the Lionheart. Dominating the city, it offers an exceptional panorama on Talmont and its surroundings. On a self-guided or organized tour, you will plunge into the Middle Ages and into the heart of the Castle’s history: from its construction to its burning down to its purchase by the municipality in 1920. You will also learn that it was classified as a Historic Monument in 2009, since which time it has been regularly enhanced by various actions.

In addition to the visits, you can also attend shows of chivalry, falconry or participate in medieval workshops (calligraphy, crossbow, …). During the school vacations, puzzle games are organized as well as meetings, family workshops, egg hunts, …

Find the schedules and rates on the website of the Castle.

Le Veillon – a preserved coastline in the Vendée

Let’s go for a family beach afternoon

Talmont-Saint-Hilaire has a preserved and generous nature. Between its coastline of more than 15 km, its forests, its cliffs and other creeks or pebble beaches, you will be amazed.

Le Veillon beach is renowned in the region for its natural, unspoilt setting. It’s a little corner of paradise on the Vendée coast for families and surfers. From the white sandy beach, you can enjoy a 360° view of the dunes, the waves and the forest. The estuary forms a lagoon where the water, when it recedes, changes colour from deep blue to turquoise. At low tide, you’ll even find three-fingered dinosaur footprints – a site that’s unique in Europe!

The beach is now recognised by the Blue Flag label (which rewards water quality). On holiday with your children or grandchildren, you’ll love putting down your towel for a day on the beach, sandcastles, swimming and sunbathing!
